Starlink Rural

Privacy policy

We collect what we need to answer your enquiry and keep the site working. We never sell it.

Starlink Rural is a service of Alien IT Solutions. This page explains what information we collect through this website, why we collect it and what we do with it. We follow the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988.

What we collect

  • When you send an enquiry. The name, email, phone number (optional) and message you type into the contact form, plus the technical details sent with the form, such as your IP address, browser type and referring page.
  • When you visit the site. Google Analytics 4 records the pages you view, your rough location and your device type, and sets cookies to do it. Our content network (Cloudflare) records basic visit statistics, and our host keeps server logs for security.

Why we collect it

  • To reply to your enquiry and send you a plan and price.
  • To see which pages help people, so we can improve them.
  • To keep the website working and block spam.

We do not use your details for unrelated marketing. We do not sell or rent them to anyone, and we do not add you to a mailing list.

Who sees it

Only the services we use to run the site, and only as far as they need to do their job:

  • Google Analytics, which gives us aggregate figures on how people use the site.
  • Cloudflare and our web host, which serve the site and keep logs.
  • Akismet, our spam filter, which checks each enquiry before it reaches us.
  • Twilio, our email delivery service, which sends your enquiry to our inbox.

Some of these services process data outside Australia, including in the United States. We take reasonable steps to make sure overseas providers handle it in line with the Australian Privacy Principles. We also disclose information where the law requires it.

Cookies

Google Analytics sets cookies to measure how people use the site. You can refuse cookies in your browser, or use the Google Analytics opt-out. The site works either way.

How long we keep it

We keep enquiry details only as long as we need them for the purposes above, or as long as the law requires. After that we destroy or de-identify them. We take reasonable steps to protect what we hold.

Access, correction and deletion

You can ask what we hold about you, ask us to correct it or ask us to delete it. Send the request through the contact form and say it is a privacy request. If you are unhappy with how we handled your information, tell us first. If we cannot resolve it, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
