Rural Starlink, done right.

A plain guide to getting Starlink working for a rural property: making calls in a black spot, spreading the connection across the whole place, mounting the dish properly, and adding a backup so you stay online.

What Starlink does for a rural property

Starlink gives a rural property a fast internet connection from low-earth-orbit satellites, where fixed line and decent mobile data never reached. With WiFi calling on top, your phone can make and take calls over that connection, so a black spot at the house is no longer the end of the story.

The dish gives you the internet in one spot. Getting it across the property, and keeping it up, is the part that is worth doing properly.

What a proper rural install includes

More than a dish on the lawn. The bits that make it actually work across a property.

WiFi calling in black spots

Set up so your phone takes calls over the Starlink connection, fixing the no-mobile-signal problem at the house and the sheds.

Whole-property coverage

The connection spread from the dish to the buildings that need it, with WiFi and point-to-point links to the shed and beyond.

Dish mounting and masts

Mounted for a clear view of the sky, on a mast where the trees or the roofline get in the way, cabled in properly.

4G failover and CCTV

A mobile backup so a heavy-weather dropout rolls over and stays online, plus cameras on the same connection if you want them.

Who does the work

Starlink Rural is the satellite-internet service of Alien IT Solutions, an Australian IT, networks and connectivity company with more than 15 years of experience. It is part of a family of rural services, all Alien IT: Long Range WiFi for long-range links, Paddock Networks for whole-property wifi, Rural IoT for sensors, and Tank Monitoring for water.

Questions people ask

Can Starlink give me phone calls where there is no mobile signal?

Yes, through WiFi calling. Once Starlink provides an internet connection, your phone can make and take calls over WiFi instead of the mobile network, so a black spot at the house stops being a problem. Setting it up so it works reliably across the property is part of what we do.

Does the connection reach the whole property?

Not on its own. Starlink lands in one spot, so to reach the shed, the office or the yards we spread it with WiFi and point-to-point links, the same way the sister service Long Range WiFi carries a connection across distance. The dish gives you the internet; the network gets it where you need it.

Do you mount the dish and run the cabling?

Yes. We mount the dish for a clear view of the sky, on a mast where needed, run the cabling in, set up the network, and add 4G failover and CCTV if you want them. It is a proper install, not a dish balanced on the verandah.

What happens if Starlink drops out?

We can add 4G or 5G failover so that if the satellite link drops in heavy weather, the connection rolls over to mobile until it comes back. For a property that depends on being online, that backup path is worth having.
